Rivers-Marie Joy Road Pinot Noir 2021 is the first Pinot Noir release from this exceptional Sonoma site, offering a compelling expression of a vineyard Thomas Rivers Brown has known intimately since working with its Chardonnay in 2013. Planted on notably sandy soils close to the coast, the vineyard brings a lifted, precise style to the glass, shaped by careful block-by-block vinification and thoughtful blending.

In the glass, this Pinot Noir shows a vibrant, fresh profile that speaks to its coastal origin and elegant structure. The nose is bright and nuanced, with aromas of red cherry, strawberry, white flowers, sandalwood, black pepper, and a subtle touch of mint. The palate follows with layers of red fruit, cranberry, and a refreshing sense of energy that gives the wine both charm and finesse. It is already highly appealing, yet its balance and detail suggest it will continue to evolve beautifully over time, gaining added complexity with age.

Joy Road lies in Sonoma near the coast, where sandy soils and a cool maritime influence help preserve freshness and aromatic lift. The Pinot Noir fruit comes from eight separate blocks within the vineyard, and each parcel is fermented individually to capture its distinct character before blending. This meticulous approach allows Thomas Rivers Brown to shape a wine of precision, purity, and depth.

This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with roast duck, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon, herb-roasted chicken, or dishes with earthy components such as truffle and wild mushrooms. Serve slightly chilled, ideally around 14-16°C, and consider a brief decant if the wine is being enjoyed young to help it open up.
