Calera Ryan Vineyard Pinot Noir 2011

Calera’s Ryan Vineyard Pinot Noir 2011 is a dark, intensely flavored expression of Mount Harlan Pinot Noir, showing remarkable depth for a site planted only in 1998. Combining whole-cluster fermentation, extended French oak aging, and the region’s signature mineral drive, this is a wine with both power and finesse. Already impressive in its youth, it also has the structure to evolve beautifully over time.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine appears almost inky, with a deep, near-black color that immediately signals concentration. The nose opens generously with dark plums, black cherries, and mulberries, lifted by floral notes of violets and a refined layer of sandalwood. The palate is rich and full of dark fruit, layered with accents of licorice and nutmeg. Despite its intensity, the wine retains a clear mineral edge that gives it definition and length. It is ready to drink now, but has the balance and depth to age gracefully for another 15 years.

Ryan Vineyard was planted in 1998 on the slopes of Mount Harlan in California, a site known for its distinct mineral character and cool-climate influence. For this vintage, 70% of the clusters were fermented whole, a method that adds structure, aromatic complexity, and freshness. The wine was then matured for 20 months in French oak barrels, with 30% new oak, allowing the fruit, spice, and mineral elements to integrate while preserving the wine’s intensity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with dishes that can stand up to its depth, such as roast duck, seared lamb, mushroom risotto, venison, or grilled salmon with earthy accompaniments. Serve at 16–18°C for the best expression of its aromas and texture. Decanting is recommended if opening now, especially to allow the wine to fully unfold.
