Calera Ryan Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012

Calera’s Ryan Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012 is a striking, deeply colored expression of Mount Harlan, combining richness, mineral precision, and impressive depth. Planted in 1998, Ryan Vineyard is still relatively young for a Pinot Noir site, yet it already shows the kind of distinctive, earthy-mineral character that has made this part of California so respected among serious Pinot lovers.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine is almost inky black for Pinot Noir, signaling both concentration and intensity. The nose opens generously with dark plum, black cherry, mulberry, violet, and a hint of sandalwood, giving it a layered and perfumed character. On the palate, the dark fruit is echoed with additional notes of licorice and nutmeg, supported by a firm, mineral backbone and the influence of French oak. It is ready to enjoy now, but it also has the structure and depth to age beautifully for another 15 years or more.

Ryan Vineyard was planted in 1998 on Mount Harlan, a high-elevation California site known for its mineral-driven wines and cool-climate conditions. For the 2012 vintage, 70% of the clusters were fermented whole, adding complexity and structure, before the wine spent 20 months aging in French oak barrels, 30% of which were new.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with roasted duck, herb-crusted lamb, mushroom dishes, venison, or rich poultry preparations. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for about 30–60 minutes is recommended if opening it young or if you want the aromas to fully unfold.
