Shafer Vineyards Hillside Select 2018 Magnum is one of Napa Valley’s most iconic Cabernet Sauvignons and a true benchmark for the region. Made entirely from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown on 14 small hillside parcels around the estate, it represents the pinnacle of Shafer’s hillside fruit and the wine that helped define the winery’s reputation from the very beginning. In this impressive magnum format, the 2018 vintage promises even greater depth, longevity, and cellar presence.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this is a deeply colored, intensely concentrated red with the kind of dark, opaque core you expect from a wine of serious pedigree. The nose is lavish and layered, offering black plum, cassis, blackberry tart, anise, nutmeg, and rose petals, with further complexity unfolding in the form of smoky, savory notes. The palate mirrors the aromatics with rich dark plum and blueberry, followed by pomegranate, licorice, crushed stone, tobacco, sage, and a subtle thread of smoke. Powerful yet polished, it finishes with exceptional length and intensity. While already captivating in a large glass today, this wine has the structure and balance to age beautifully for at least another 20 years.

Viininvalmistus
Hillside Select is sourced from 14 small hillside parcels at Shafer Vineyards, where the steep slopes provide excellent drainage, concentration, and ripe, expressive Cabernet fruit. The 2018 vintage was vinified by winemaker Elias Fernandez and spent 32 months aging in 100% new French oak barrels, a regimen that adds depth, structure, and aromatic complexity to the wine while supporting its naturally powerful fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Best enjoyed with equally serious dishes such as grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, roasted lamb, or game with earthy mushroom accompaniments. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for several hours if opening young, especially for a magnum, to allow the wine’s full aromatic range and layered structure to emerge.
