Built from a selection of top vineyards including Alban, Stolpman, Bien Nacido, and White Hawk, it combines richness, precision, and remarkable intensity in a wine that helped cement Sine Qua Non’s reputation on the world stage.

In the glass, Midnight Oil shows an almost opaque, midnight-black color with the dense, saturated look that hints at its concentration. The nose is layered and expressive, with violet and acacia florals, blackberry, crème de cassis, melted licorice, camphor, and a touch of toasty new oak. The palate is plush yet beautifully structured, delivering excellent texture, ripe tannins, and a lively backbone of acidity that keeps the wine balanced despite its power. Long, intense, and memorably persistent, it finishes with remarkable length and should continue to evolve gracefully for many years, gaining nuance and complexity with age.

Midnight Oil comes from a multi-vineyard blend sourced from some of California’s most respected sites, bringing together fruit from Alban, Stolpman, Bien Nacido, and White Hawk. These vineyards contribute to the wine’s depth and complexity, with warm, sun-drenched conditions in California helping to achieve full ripeness while preserving structure. The wine is based predominantly on Syrah, with small additions of Grenache and Viognier, reflecting Sine Qua Non’s Rhône-inspired style and Manfred Krankl’s highly hands-on approach to winemaking.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a powerful red that pairs beautifully with equally bold dishes such as grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, venison, lamb shoulder, or slow-roasted game. It also works well with rich mushroom dishes and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours, especially if opened young, to allow its aromatics and structure to fully unfold.
