Sine Qua Non Syrah Male 2013

Sine Qua Non Syrah "Male" 2013 is one of California’s most sought-after cult reds: intense, highly individual, and built with unmistakable precision. Crafted by Manfred Krankl in his signature style, it combines explosive power with remarkable detail, drawing depth from low-yield vineyards and a thoughtful blend of Syrah with small amounts of other Rhône varieties. The name "Male" reflects the wine’s muscular, bold personality, while the wine itself has become a benchmark for modern, expressive Syrah in California.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a near-black core with vivid violet highlights. The nose is layered and complex, opening with blueberry, blackberry, black pepper, crushed stone, liquorice, smoke, bacon fat, and subtle floral notes, all delivered with both raw energy and refinement. On the palate, it is monumental and deeply concentrated, with waves of dark fruit, spice, and mineral character wrapped around firm, ripe tannins and a vibrant line of acidity. Despite its richness, the wine remains precise and structured, with the balance to age beautifully for many years, likely developing greater nuance and savoury complexity over time.

Viininvalmistus
This wine is primarily sourced from Sine Qua Non’s estate and key vineyards in California, including The Third Twin, Eleven Confessions, and Cumulus, where yields are kept extremely low and the farming is focused on meticulous site expression. The terroir contributes concentrated fruit, mineral tension, and exceptional depth, while the final blend may include small portions of Grenache, Petite Sirah, and other varieties depending on what best serves the vintage. Vinification is handled with the same obsessive attention to detail, aiming to preserve intensity, texture, and balance while highlighting the wine’s sculptural structure.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Best enjoyed with richly flavoured dishes such as slow-braised short ribs, grilled lamb, venison, aged beef, or wild mushroom dishes with deep umami character. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting is strongly recommended, ideally for 1–3 hours, to allow the wine to open and reveal its full aromatic range and layered complexity.
