Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia, Bolgheri Rosso DOC 2021

Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 2021 is one of Italy’s most iconic red wines, and a benchmark for the Super Tuscan category it helped create. Produced in Bolgheri from Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, it is the only Italian wine with its own DOC appellation, reflecting both its singular identity and enduring prestige.

Makuprofiili
The 2021 vintage shows deep, youthful concentration in the glass, with a dark ruby color that hints at its power and finesse. The nose is layered and expressive, opening with blackcurrant, blackberry, violet, cedar, tobacco, and dried herbs, lifted by a refined mineral edge. On the palate, Sassicaia balances intensity with remarkable elegance. Velvety tannins, vibrant acidity, and notes of dark berries, spice, graphite, and subtle oak create a wine of great precision and length. While already impressive now, this is a wine built for aging and will continue to evolve beautifully over decades.

Viininvalmistus
Sassicaia is made from 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc, grown in the stony soils of Bolgheri in Tuscany. The region’s well-drained terroir, coastal influence, and favorable 2021 climatic conditions contributed to excellent ripeness, balance, and structure in the grapes.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a superb match for grilled or roasted red meats, game, truffle dishes, and mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine’s aromas and structure to fully open.
