Vega Sicilia Único 1999 is one of Spain’s most iconic red wines, crafted only in exceptional vintages and released when the estate believes it has reached the right level of maturity. In the glass, this is a wine of quiet brilliance rather than overt power, with a deep, refined colour that hints at its concentration and evolution. The nose is layered and sophisticated, offering graphite, sun-ripened blackcurrants, blackberry leaves, cloves, dried flowers, leather, ripe cherries, cedar, tobacco, and dark chocolate. The palate is weightless yet intensely flavoured, unfolding in layers of white pepper, liquorice, mocha, and mineral notes. Ultra-fine tannins provide structure without interrupting the wine’s seamless flow, while a vibrant freshness brings lift and clarity to the finish. This is a wine with outstanding aging potential, though it can already be enjoyed now thanks to its harmony and depth.

Viininvalmistus
Vega Sicilia Único is sourced from the estate’s finest vineyards in Castilla y León, where the continental climate, warm days, and cool nights help preserve freshness and aromatic detail. The wine is produced from carefully selected Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, with harvesting carried out only in the best years. Vinification follows a long and patient approach, and Único is famously aged for many years in the winery’s cellars, including extensive time in oak, before release.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a superb match for slow-cooked lamb, roast game, beef Wellington, or rich dishes with truffle, wild mushrooms, or aged Manchego. Serve at 16–18°C to allow the wine’s complexity and elegance to shine. Decanting is recommended, especially if opening young, to help the aromatics unfold fully.
