Walter Scott X Novo Vineyard Chardonnay 2019 is a striking Oregon white wine that captures both precision and generosity. Sourced from the X Novo vineyard in Eola-Amity Hills and crafted by winemaker Ken Pahlow, it combines lifted fruit, stony minerality, and a refined oak frame in a style that invites comparisons with some of Burgundy’s most exciting Chardonnays. The wine also carries added allure from its tiny production of just 325 cases.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a beautiful straw-yellow color that hints at its freshness and subtle richness. The nose is expressive and layered, with aromas of Anjou pear, peach, orange peel, citrus, white tea, vanilla, and a flinty edge that gives the bouquet tension and lift. The palate echoes the aromatic profile with impressive clarity, putting citrus, ripe peach, and chamomile at the forefront, supported by a vivid mineral core that lingers well into the finish. There is enough structure and balance here to reward a few more years in bottle, though it is already highly enjoyable for those who appreciate youthful energy and detail.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from X Novo Vineyard in Oregon’s Eola-Amity Hills, a site known for producing Chardonnay with notable freshness and minerality. The vineyard is owned by Craig Williams, whose background as a winemaker at Joseph Phelps underscores the quality-focused approach behind the site. Fruit is harvested and sorted by hand, then fermented and aged in a mix of new and used oak barrels to add texture without overwhelming the wine’s natural brightness and mineral drive.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with roasted chicken, buttery shellfish, grilled lobster, creamy risotto, or dishes with mushrooms and herbs. Serve it chilled at around 10–12°C for the best balance of freshness and complexity. Decanting is not essential, but a short splash into a carafe can help open the wine if you are enjoying it young.
