Zorah Karasi Areni Noir 2022

Zorah Karasi Areni Noir 2022 is a distinctive Armenian red that celebrates one of the world’s oldest winemaking traditions. Crafted from the native Areni Noir grape and matured in traditional clay amphorae, it combines authenticity, elegance, and a beautifully layered character that reflects both heritage and craftsmanship.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red colour with a refined, inviting brightness. The nose is expressive and nuanced, offering notes of ripe red berries, sour cherry, dried herbs, earthy spice, and a subtle mineral edge that speaks to its traditional ageing. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet remarkably balanced, with silky, ripe tannins and a graceful sense of freshness. Flavours of dark cherry, plum, wild berries, and delicate spice unfold with depth and precision, while the amphora ageing lends a textured, pure finish. It has the structure to develop further with a few years of cellaring, gaining additional complexity and softness over time.

Karasi is produced in Armenia from Areni Noir, a grape strongly associated with the country’s ancient viticultural identity. The name “Karasi” refers to the traditional large clay amphorae used for ageing, a method that preserves purity of fruit while adding texture and complexity. This approach highlights the character of the terroir and the grape, with careful harvesting and vinification designed to express the wine’s authentic, old-world style.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, roasted duck, game birds, earthy mushroom dishes, and Mediterranean-style vegetables with herbs and spices. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for about 30–60 minutes if possible to allow the aromas and texture to fully open.
