E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline 2003 is one of the Northern Rhône’s most celebrated wines, combining impressive depth with a famously polished, silky texture. Sourced from the Côte Blonde and crafted from a rare blend of Syrah and Viognier, it stands out for its remarkable complexity, precision, and long, graceful ageing potential. This is a wine with true historical weight, representing one of the benchmark cuvées that helped define Côte-Rôtie on the world stage.

In the glass, La Mouline shows a deep ruby colour with a violet rim, signalling both concentration and youthful energy. The bouquet is wonderfully layered, unfolding with aromas of crème de cassis, black elderberry, violets, potpourri, roasted herbs, espresso, cola, and caramel, all lifted by subtle floral tones. On the palate, it is full-bodied and richly textured, with a structured core of dark fruit, spice, and mineral character. The tannins are fine and precise rather than forceful, giving the wine a supple, elegant feel that carries through to a long, silky finish. Already expressive now, it has the depth and balance to age beautifully well beyond 2035, gaining even more nuance and harmony over time.

Viininvalmistus
La Mouline comes from the Côte Blonde in Côte-Rôtie, where the steep granite and schist-based slopes provide ideal conditions for refined, aromatic Syrah. The wine is made from approximately 89% Syrah and 11% Viognier, co-fermented and then matured for around 42 months in new French oak, a long élevage that adds texture, polish, and remarkable integration to the final wine.

This is an exceptional match for rich dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, venison, duck breast, or truffle-infused cuisine, as well as mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for a couple of hours to allow the wine’s aromatics and layered structure to खुल? unfold fully.
