E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline 2011 is one of the most distinctive wines from the northern Rhône, sourced from the famed Côte Blonde in Côte-Rôtie. Crafted from around 89% Syrah and 11% Viognier, it is co-fermented and aged for approximately 42 months in new French oak, giving the wine remarkable depth, perfume, and refinement. La Mouline is considered one of Guigal’s legendary single-vineyard bottlings, a wine that has helped define the prestige of modern Côte-Rôtie.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, this vintage shows a deep ruby color that already hints at its concentration and elegance. The bouquet is beautifully layered, with red and dark berries such as raspberry and blackberry, followed by violet, spice, toasted notes, vanilla, and a subtle smoky edge.
On the palate, it is silky and harmonious, with concentrated fruit, finely integrated acidity, and polished tannins that give the wine both structure and finesse. The finish is long and complex, unfolding with dark fruit, spice, and gentle toasted nuances. While it has excellent aging potential and will continue to evolve gracefully for many years, it is already showing impressive balance and sophistication.
Viininvalmistus
La Mouline comes from the Côte Blonde, one of the most celebrated sites in Côte-Rôtie, where steep vineyard slopes and a mix of terroirs help produce wines of perfume, precision, and power. The grapes are harvested by hand, as is typical in this demanding region, where vineyard work is made difficult by the dramatic hillside terrain. The wine is co-fermented from Syrah and Viognier and then aged for around 42 months in new French oak, a meticulous élevage that adds texture, complexity, and aging depth.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine to enjoy with refined, flavor-rich dishes such as roast lamb, duck breast, venison, truffle-based plates, or slow-cooked beef. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses and savory mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for one to two hours if opening young, to allow the aromatics and structure to fully open up.
