E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque 2001 is one of the most sought-after wines from the Northern Rhône, prized for its rarity, power, and remarkable ability to age. Crafted from roughly 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier on the steep Côte Brune terroir, it represents a dramatic, intensely structured expression of Côte-Rôtie with a reputation for depth and longevity.

Makuprofiili
This is a deep, concentrated red wine with a brooding, youthful appearance and an almost impenetrable intensity in the glass. The nose is still tightly wound, revealing layers of espresso, creosote, roasted fruit, black spices, anise, basil, and earthy mineral notes, with dark berries and fig gradually emerging with air. On the palate, La Turque 2001 is massive yet finely composed, showing firm tannins, vivid acidity, and a tightly coiled core of dark fruit, licorice, and savory, smoky nuance. It finishes with impressive length and precision, and while already complex, it is built for patience; this vintage has the structure and balance to continue developing for 20–25 years or more.

Viininvalmistus
La Turque comes from the steep slopes of Côte Brune in Côte-Rôtie, where the schist-rich terroir lends the wine its dark, mineral-driven character and powerful tannic frame. The vineyard was acquired by E. Guigal in 1985 and is produced in extremely small quantities, often fewer than 400 bottles per year. Fermentation and élevage are handled with the meticulous approach for which Guigal is known, resulting in a wine of precision, concentration, and longevity.

Best enjoyed with rich, flavourful dishes such as roasted lamb, venison, beef short ribs, game birds, or truffle-infused cuisine. Serve at 16–18°C and decant for several hours in advance, especially if opening it young, to allow the wine to open gradually and show its full aromatic and textural complexity.
