Abreu Cappella Proprietary Red 2013 is a striking expression of one of California’s most celebrated vineyard sites, crafted by David Abreu from a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The wine stands out for its uncommon finesse in a powerful vintage, combining deep concentration, polished tannins, and a sense of sensual, dark-fruited elegance that has made Cappella one of the most admired wines in Abreu’s portfolio.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this is a deeply colored red, with a dark blue to almost inky core that hints at its intensity. The nose is beautifully composed, offering layers of ripe black and blue fruit, along with lifted notes of mint, lavender, and a subtle floral character that gives the wine poise and aromatic detail. On the palate, Cappella 2013 is silky and seamless, yet far from light. The fruit is dense and concentrated, supported by refined tannins and a balanced structure that keeps everything in harmony. While approachable earlier than some of the more muscular wines from the vintage, it still has the depth and framework to age gracefully for many years, gaining even more complexity with time in bottle.

The Cappella vineyard in St. Helena is one of the oldest sites in the area, originally planted in 1869 and later completely replanted after a long period of fallow land. Its small size, old-vine heritage, and carefully managed replanting reflect David Abreu’s uncompromising approach to vineyard work. The 2013 vintage benefited from an exceptionally dry growing season in California, which produced small, concentrated berries, while timely rainfall during the final ripening stage helped preserve balance and overall health. The result was a harvest of ripe, structured grapes with excellent tannin quality and vivid fruit concentration, vinified to emphasize finesse as much as power.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine best served with richly flavored dishes such as grilled ribeye, roast lamb, beef short ribs, or game served with earthy accompaniments like mushrooms or truffle. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to allow the aromatics and layered structure to open fully.
