Adelina McLaren Shiraz 2022

Adelina McLaren Shiraz 2022 is a standout South Australian red that combines fruit from some of the region’s oldest Shiraz vines with organically farmed Mataro. The result is a wine with serious depth, freshness, and character, offering remarkable quality for the price. It reflects both McLaren Vale’s old-vine heritage and Adelina’s thoughtful, modern approach to winemaking.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this is a dark, deeply coloured wine that immediately suggests concentration and intensity. The nose is beautifully layered with blueberry, raspberry, dried roses, liquorice, a hint of mint, and smoky charcuterie notes. The palate is rich and focused, showing plenty of ripe dark fruit wrapped around a fresh, vital frame that keeps the wine lively and balanced. It finishes long and persistent, with subtle notes of tobacco and menthol adding complexity. While very enjoyable now, it has the structure to age gracefully over the next several years.

Viininvalmistus
This wine draws 75% Shiraz from the McDowell Brown Vineyard, home to some of Australia’s oldest and best vines at 125 years of age, and 25% Mataro from Adelina’s own organically farmed vineyards. The fruit was fully destemmed before fermentation in concrete, a method that helps preserve purity and texture. After fermentation, the wine matured for nine months in large oak casks, 25% of which were new, adding finesse without overpowering the fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Shiraz pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, slow-roasted beef, duck, game, or richly flavoured dishes with herbs and spice. It also works well with chargrilled vegetables and hard, aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes to let the aromatics open fully.
