Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1989 is a remarkable Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s most admired estates, combining power with the house’s signature grace. The 1989 vintage is especially celebrated for its depth, silky texture, and exceptional aromatic complexity, making it a standout for collectors. With its long-standing 2nd Growth status and a history rooted in the split of the original Pichon estate in the 19th century, this is a wine with both pedigree and provenance.

In the glass, the wine shows a deep, opaque purple core that speaks to its concentration and age-worthy structure. The nose is expansive and layered, offering smoky cassis, chocolate, toasted oak, tobacco, cedar, crushed flowers, and incense, with a touch of the savoury, earthy character that often defines mature Bordeaux. On the palate, the 1989 is full-bodied and richly textured, yet remarkably refined, with sweet fruit at the core and exceptionally silky tannins. It balances richness and finesse in a way that is especially compelling in a warm, generous vintage like 1989. While already in a beautiful drinking window, it also has the depth and structure to continue evolving gracefully for many years.

Viininvalmistus
Pichon Comtesse is based in the southern part of Pauillac, on deep gravel soils close to the Gironde estuary, an ideal terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon and the classic Bordeaux blend. The estate’s vineyards are planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon, alongside Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and the fruit is typically harvested parcel by parcel to preserve the character of each plot. Since the modernisation of the winery, the estate has vinified parcels separately in order to build precision, complexity, and balance into the final blend.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine is an excellent match for fine cuts of beef, roast lamb, game birds, duck breast, or dishes with truffle and mushroom accents. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking now, especially to allow the bouquet to fully open.

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande traces its origins to 1689, when the Pichon estate was established, later split following the death of Baron Joseph de Pichon Longueville in 1850. The Comtesse side of the estate became associated with Virginie Pichon Longueville and her marriage to Henri de Lalande, and the château was a major beneficiary of Bordeaux’s 1855 Classification as a 2nd Growth. Under the leadership of May-Eliane de Lencquesaing and later the Rouzaud family, the estate gained renewed prominence through major investment, vineyard expansion, and a continuing reputation for producing some of Pauillac’s most elegant and expressive wines.
