Domaine d'Orfeuilles Silex d'Orfeuilles is a characterful Vouvray Chenin Blanc shaped by the region’s signature flinty soils and crafted with a strong biodynamic philosophy. It stands out for its purity, mineral drive, and impressive depth, while also showing the natural elegance and age-worthiness that have made Chenin Blanc one of the Loire’s most admired grapes.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, this is a wine with attractive clarity and presence, opening with aromas of nectarine, quince, white flowers, subtle oak spice, vanilla, and a distinct flinty note. The bouquet is layered and expressive, combining ripe fruit with a cool mineral edge that gives the wine real personality.
On the palate, it shows generous texture and plenty of volume without ever feeling heavy. The fruit is ripe and nuanced, supported by freshness, gentle oak influence, and a vibrant streak of minerality. It is delicious now, but it also has excellent aging potential; under the right conditions, it can develop beautifully over many years, with the producer suggesting a very long life in bottle.
Viininvalmistus
The Chenin Blanc grapes come from a highly flint-rich site in Vouvray, in the Loire Valley, where the soils help shape the wine’s signature mineral and smoky character. The fruit is harvested and sorted by hand, then pressed for 2 to 3 hours before fermentation takes place in oak barrels with no added yeast or other additives. The wine is matured for 11 months in a combination of stainless steel and oak, including 25% new oak, to balance texture, freshness, and subtle complexity.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine works beautifully with roast chicken, creamy fish dishes, shellfish, aged goat’s cheese, and pork with a mild mustard or fruit-based sauce. It also pairs well with refined vegetarian dishes featuring mushrooms, root vegetables, or roasted squash. Serve chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and decanting is not necessary, though a short airing can help open the wine if served young.

Domaine d'Orfeuilles was founded in 1947 by Paul Herivault on the remains of an old medieval castle, and today it is run by his son Bernard Herivault. The estate is regarded as a strong voice in Vouvray, producing wines with a clear sense of place and a commitment to biodynamic principles. Bernard Herivault is known for his uncompromising approach to natural winemaking, and the domaine has earned a reputation for wines that combine originality, precision, and excellent aging potential.
