Domaine Merlin-Cherrier Sancerre Rouge 2020 is a distinctive take on Sancerre, showing that the appellation is capable of more than just white wines. Made from 100% Pinot Noir from the producer’s own parcels, it offers a characterful and more terroir-driven expression of the grape. With vines planted in 1964 and 1988, this is a wine with real depth and a touch of historical weight behind it.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this Sancerre Rouge has the fresh, translucent look you’d expect from Pinot Noir. The nose is especially intriguing, combining classic red berry aromas such as strawberry and raspberry with floral and herbal notes, plus a surprising hint of citrus that gives it a very individual profile. On the palate, it shows bright fruit, a clean dry finish, and enough structure to keep things interesting without feeling heavy. The balance of freshness and texture makes it very approachable now, especially with a slight chill. It should drink well over the next few years, though it is best enjoyed for its lively, aromatic charm rather than long aging.

Viininvalmistus
The fruit comes from two old-vine parcels in Sancerre, planted in 1964 and 1988, giving the wine natural concentration and character. After fermentation, the wine is matured in a combination of stainless steel and very large oak casks, a method that helps preserve freshness while adding a subtle layer of complexity without overt oak influence.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a versatile Pinot Noir that works beautifully with roast chicken, duck breast, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes, and charcuterie. It also pairs well with lighter game and creamy soft cheeses. Serve slightly chilled, around 14–16°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a short aeration can help open the wine if served soon after opening.
