Franz Keller Oberbergener Bassgeige Chardonnay Erste Lage Premier Cru 2023 is a refined and expressive white wine from one of Baden’s most celebrated vineyard sites. Made from 100% Chardonnay grown in the warm, volcanic soils of the Kaiserstuhl, it combines Premier Cru-level precision with impressive depth, elegance, and a distinctly European sense of place.

In the glass, this Chardonnay shows a bright, pale golden colour that hints at both freshness and concentration. The nose is layered and inviting, opening with ripe apple, pear, and citrus, followed by subtle mineral tones that reflect the vineyard’s volcanic character. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and creamy, yet kept beautifully in balance by well-integrated acidity. Gentle notes of butter and light toast from oak aging add richness and complexity without overwhelming the fruit, leading to a long, elegant finish. While already highly enjoyable, it should also develop nicely over the next few years, gaining further depth and nuance.
