Franz Keller Steinreise Spätburgunder Grosses Gewächs 2023 is the estate’s flagship wine and a striking example of top-tier German Pinot Noir. From a site with an exceptional position and roots sunk deep into limestone-rich volcanic soils, it has already earned acclaim for its precision, depth, and remarkable mineral drive. First released in 2018, it quickly drew applause from the wine world and established itself as one of Baden’s most exciting Pinots.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows a refined, vivid character with a beautifully bright core of blue and dark fruit. The nose is layered and expressive, offering blueberries, dark cherries, herbs, flint, and a subtle hint of sesame, all framed by a cool, mineral freshness. The palate is elegant and finely structured, with vibrant acidity, sleek texture, and a pronounced mineral line that gives the wine a serious, almost savory dimension. Blue fruit is especially prominent, while the oak is integrated rather than dominant. It can be enjoyed now with some air, but it has excellent aging potential and should evolve beautifully over the coming years.

Viininvalmistus
Steinreise comes from a superbly exposed vineyard in Baden, where the vines grow in a mix of perfectly limestone-rich volcanic soils that lend the wine its distinctive mineral tension. The grapes are carefully harvested to preserve freshness and precision, then the juice is aged for 18 months in small French oak barrels, with half of the oak being new. This élevage adds depth and polish while allowing the site’s character to remain at the forefront.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a Pinot Noir that will shine with dishes such as duck breast, roast quail, mushroom risotto, veal, or herb-crusted lamb. It also works beautifully with earthy vegetable dishes and refined poultry preparations. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended if opening young, especially to let the wine fully unfold in the glass.
