Gutzler Schwarzblauer Riesling trocken from the “Historische Rebsorten” series is a striking example of how forgotten grape varieties can be brought back to life with precision and respect. Made in Rheinhessen, this dry wine highlights the grape’s distinctive personality, combining local character, rarity, and a bold sense of originality in one highly individual bottle.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red colour that immediately sets it apart from more familiar Rieslings. The nose offers aromas of red cherries, wild berries, and a subtle herbal edge, giving the wine a fresh yet slightly untamed profile. On the palate, it is dry, linear, and expressive, with firm tannins, lively acidity, and a spicy, almost wild character. The finish is juicy, persistent, and marked by an elegant bitterness that adds complexity. While enjoyable now for its energy and uniqueness, it also has the structure to evolve further with short-term bottle ageing.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes are grown sustainably in limestone-rich soils, which contribute to the wine’s firm structure and mineral-driven backbone. Harvesting is done by hand to ensure careful selection of the fruit, and vinification is carried out gently to preserve the grape’s authentic character. After around 10 days of fermentation, the wine matures for 16 months in used oak barrels, adding texture without overwhelming its natural expression.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine is an excellent match for dishes that can stand up to its tannins and lively acidity, such as roasted poultry, pork, game, mushroom-based dishes, or richly flavoured vegetarian plates. Serve it slightly chilled at around 12–14°C, and decanting is recommended to let the wine open up and show its full aromatic complexity.
