Mas Doix Salanques 2021

Mas Doix Salanques 2021 is a beautifully poised Priorat that combines depth, freshness, and approachability in one polished wine. Made from Grenache, Carignan, and a touch of Syrah from old vines rooted in the region’s iconic llicorella slate, it captures the dramatic character of Priorat while offering a more focused, elegant expression of the vintage.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Salanques 2021 shows a deep, concentrated colour that hints at its intensity. The nose is expressive and layered, opening with dark berries, violets, dried rosemary, and a distinct mineral note of warm slate. The palate is dense yet silky, with ripe blackberry, sour cherry, liquorice, cocoa, and a subtle touch of toasted oak. The tannins are ripe and finely polished, while the fresh acidity gives the wine lift and direction. This is a wine with real ageing potential, but it is already remarkably accessible, offering the structure to develop further over the next several years.

Viininvalmistus
Salanques comes from steep Priorat vineyards planted on classic llicorella slate soils, where old vines—some around 70 years of age—struggle for water and produce naturally low yields. The fruit is harvested by hand, then the grape varieties are vinified separately with gentle, temperature-controlled fermentation and moderate extraction to preserve purity and balance. The wine is matured for 14 months in French oak barrels, mostly used, allowing the fruit and mineral character to remain at the forefront.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for grilled lamb, beef stew, roast duck, game, or rich Mediterranean dishes with herbs and roasted vegetables. Serve at 16–18°C. Decanting for about 1 hour is recommended if opening young, as it will help the wine show its full aromatic depth and soften the tannins.
