Penfolds Grange 2004

Penfolds Grange 2004 is a benchmark release from one of Australia’s most iconic wines, showing a more elegant side of the house’s famously powerful style. Made primarily from Shiraz with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon, it draws on fruit from outstanding sites across Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and Coonawarra, and is regarded as one of the most celebrated Grange vintages of recent decades.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine is deep and densely colored, almost opaque, hinting at the concentration within. The nose opens with ripe blackberries, cassis, plum, and blueberry, layered with dark chocolate, roasted coffee, tobacco, vanilla, and warm spice from oak. The palate is rich, seamless, and beautifully structured, delivering wave after wave of dark fruit, liquorice, and subtle mineral notes. Tannins are firm yet fully integrated, giving the wine both balance and length, while its depth and precision suggest excellent aging potential for 30 to 40 years and beyond.

Viininvalmistus
Penfolds Grange is built on the winery’s multi-regional blending philosophy, selecting top parcels from South Australia’s best vineyards to create maximum complexity and consistency. The 2004 vintage benefited from a long, cool growing season and a moderate harvest, allowing the Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes to achieve full ripeness with freshness and intensity. After careful vinification, the wine was matured for 18 months in new American oak barrels, adding structure, spice, and the signature Grange complexity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine for richly flavoured dishes such as roast lamb, braised beef, venison, or slow-cooked short ribs, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting for several hours is recommended to allow the wine to fully раскры its aromatics and soften its tightly woven structure.
