Penfolds Grange 2005

Penfolds Grange 2005 is a landmark vintage of Australia’s most iconic red wine, showcasing the depth, power, and longevity that have made Grange world-famous. Crafted primarily from Shiraz with a small portion of Cabernet Sauvignon, it reflects the house style at its most concentrated and refined, drawing fruit from some of South Australia’s finest vineyards. Makuprofiili
In the glass, Grange 2005 is dense and dark, with an inky core that hints at its concentration and structure. The nose is intensely layered, offering blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, and violet alongside notes of coffee, cocoa, sweet spice, vanilla, and toasted oak. The palate is rich and full-bodied, packed with dark berry fruit, liquorice, chocolate, and a subtle touch of mint. Despite its generosity, the wine remains firmly structured, with fine but persistent tannins and a long, complex finish. It is already impressive now, but its exceptional aging potential suggests it will continue to evolve beautifully for decades, with a cellaring window of 30-40 years.

Viininvalmistus
Penfolds sources fruit for Grange from outstanding South Australian sites, including Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and Coonawarra, blending parcels to achieve consistency, depth, and complexity. The 2005 vintage benefited from a cool spring followed by a warm, dry growing season, allowing the grapes to ripen fully while retaining structure and balance. Following Penfolds’ signature vinification approach, the wine was matured for 18 months in new American oak barrels, adding richness, spice, and the distinctive Grange textural imprint.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine that deserves equally bold food pairings, such as grilled ribeye, slow-braised short ribs, venison, lamb shoulder, or aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting for at least 1-2 hours to allow the aromatics and structure to open fully.
