R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia Blanco Reserva 2011 is one of Rioja’s most distinctive white wines: long-aged, beautifully textured, and made in very limited quantities from a tiny portion of the Tondonia vineyard. Crafted mainly from Viura with a touch of Malvasía, it combines the freshness of high acidity with the complexity that only extended time in oak and bottle can bring. This is a classic, old-school Rioja Blanco with a deep sense of tradition behind it.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a bright, mature golden hue that hints at its long élevage. The nose is layered and refined, unfolding with notes of preserved lemon, orange peel, beeswax, chamomile, and subtle tertiary nuances from years of development in bottle and barrel. On the palate, it is dry, focused, and lightly textured, with vibrant acidity carrying flavours of citrus rind, wax, and gentle herbal spice. Despite its age, the wine remains taut and precise, finishing with impressive length and clarity. While already highly expressive, it still has the structure to continue evolving gracefully for years to come.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from the Tondonia vineyard in Rioja, where only a very small section is planted with white varieties, making the wine naturally scarce. Fermentation takes place in old 6,000-litre wooden vats, followed by six years of aging in American oak barrels, of which only about 10% are new, while the rest are older barrels of varying ages. The wine then spends seven years in bottle before release, giving it its signature balance of freshness, texture, and developed complexity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs wonderfully with richer seafood dishes, roast poultry, creamy sauces, mushroom risotto, and mature cheeses. Serve it slightly cool, ideally around 10–12°C, to preserve its aromatic detail and freshness. Decanting is not essential, but a short aeration can help open up its more nuanced layers, especially if served young for a wine of this style.
