R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia Reserva 2012 is a beautifully traditional Rioja from one of Spain’s most revered old-school producers. With its extended time in oak and a classic blend led by Tempranillo, this is a wine that captures the elegance, restraint, and complexity that have made López de Heredia an icon in Rioja for generations.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a polished, mature ruby-toned color with the kind of subtle evolution you would expect from a long-aged Reserva. The nose is layered and refined, opening with ripe red and dark fruit before moving into notes of spice, vanilla, dried herbs, leather, and a faint earthy undertone. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and finely structured, with integrated tannins, bright acidity, and a graceful balance between fruit, oak, and savory complexity. The long oak aging adds depth and a distinctive traditional Rioja character, while the wine’s freshness suggests excellent aging potential for several more years, if not longer.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from vineyards around Viña Tondonia in Rioja Alta, an area known for producing age-worthy wines with balance, freshness, and depth. The blend is built around Tempranillo, supported by Garnacha and small amounts of Graciano, reflecting the classic Rioja tradition. Harvesting is carried out carefully to preserve grape quality, and vinification follows López de Heredia’s highly traditional approach, including extended maturation in oak to shape the wine’s texture and complexity while preserving its sense of place.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Reserva is an excellent match for roast lamb, grilled beef, game, mushroom dishes, and slow-cooked Spanish cuisine such as lamb stew or patatas with chorizo. It should be served at around 16–18°C, and a light decanting is recommended to help it open up and reveal its full aromatic complexity.
