R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia Reserva 2012 Magnum is a benchmark Rioja from one of Spain’s most revered traditional producers. Crafted in the classic old-school style and aged far longer than most Reserva wines, it offers remarkable depth, elegance, and the kind of authenticity that has made Viña Tondonia an icon of Spanish fine wine.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this Reserva typically shows a mature garnet tone with brick-hued reflections that hint at its extended aging. The nose is layered and refined, unfolding with notes of ripe red and dark fruit, sweet spice, vanilla, dried herbs, leather, and gentle oak complexity. On the palate, it is graceful yet structured, with polished tannins, bright acidity, and a long, savory finish. The extended barrel aging brings remarkable integration and complexity, giving the wine a seamless, time-polished character. It can be enjoyed now, but the Magnum format also supports further aging, allowing additional nuance to develop over the coming years.

Viininvalmistus
Viña Tondonia comes from vineyards in Rioja Alta, where the cooler climate and well-regarded soils help preserve freshness and balance in the grapes. The blend is based on Tempranillo with Garnacha and small proportions of Graciano, harvested with care and vinified according to López de Heredia’s deeply traditional methods. The wine is famously aged for six years in oak, far longer than is typical for Rioja Reserva, which contributes to its complexity, textural finesse, and distinctive old-world style.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled beef, braised dishes, game, and aged Manchego, as well as mushroom-based dishes and rich Mediterranean cuisine. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and decanting for an hour or two is recommended if opening now, especially to help the aromas fully open and the wine show its full complexity.
