Aalto PS 2023

Aalto PS 2023 is the flagship expression of Aalto, drawn from the very best selected plots in Ribera del Duero. Made from some of the region’s oldest vines and crafted with exceptional precision, it captures the depth, concentration, and elegance that make top-tier Tempranillo from Castilla y León so compelling. PS, short for Pagos Seleccionados, represents the most intense and refined side of the estate, with a style built for both immediate impact and serious aging.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Aalto PS 2023 is dark, dense, and deeply coloured, hinting at the concentration within. The nose opens with layers of blackcurrant, black cherry, and plum, followed by cocoa, espresso, tobacco, and a faint mineral edge of graphite. There is power here, but also polish and clarity, with the oak folded seamlessly into the fruit. The palate is rich and textured, with a creamy mouthfeel balanced by fresh, precise acidity and firm, tightly woven tannins. It shows impressive depth without feeling heavy, finishing long and persistent with spice, dark fruit, and subtle toast. This is a wine with excellent cellaring potential and should develop beautifully over 15 years or more.

Viininvalmistus
Aalto PS is sourced from exceptionally old Tempranillo vines, some reportedly 80 to 100 years old, grown in selected parcels in Ribera del Duero, where the continental climate and demanding conditions naturally limit yields and concentrate flavour. The fruit is carefully sorted before vinification, ensuring only the most expressive grapes make it into the final blend. The wine is then aged for around 20 months in new French oak barrels, adding structure, complexity, and refinement while preserving the purity of the fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine that shines alongside richly flavoured dishes such as grilled ribeye, roast lamb, venison, slow-braised beef, or mature hard cheeses. It is best served at 16–18°C, and decanting for at least an hour is recommended to allow the wine to open fully and show its layered complexity.

Aalto was founded in 1999 by Mariano García and Javier Zaccagnini and has quickly become one of the most respected names in Ribera del Duero. The estate is known for its meticulous viticulture, limited production, and uncompromising focus on quality, making its wines benchmarks for modern Tempranillo from the region. Aalto PS stands at the top of the range and is widely regarded as one of the producer’s most impressive and sought-after wines.
