Château Rieussec Carmes de Rieussec Sauternes 2020

Carmes de Rieussec is the second wine of Château Rieussec, one of Sauternes’ most respected estates and a Premier Cru Classé in the 1855 classification. Crafted with the same care and precision as the Grand Vin, it offers a more approachable style while still delivering the richness, elegance, and classic botrytised character that define great Sauternes.

In the glass, Carmes de Rieussec 2020 shows a luminous golden colour that hints at its depth and sweetness. The nose is expressive and refined, with aromas of acacia honey, candied citrus peel, dried apricots, and a subtle touch of vanilla from oak ageing. The palate is round and generous, yet beautifully balanced by a lively acidity that keeps the wine fresh and focused. Layers of sweet fruit and honeyed richness lead to a clean, elegant finish. While already highly enjoyable now, it also has the structure to develop gracefully over several years in bottle.

Viininvalmistus
Produced in Sauternes, Bordeaux, Carmes de Rieussec comes from vineyards where the climate is ideally suited to the development of noble rot, or botrytis cinerea, which concentrates the grapes’ sugars and flavours. The blend is based mainly on Sémillon, supported by Sauvignon Blanc, harvested under carefully timed conditions to ensure optimal ripeness and botrytis influence. The vinification follows the estate’s meticulous standards, combining precision harvesting with barrel ageing to preserve freshness while adding complexity and texture.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine is a natural match for foie gras, blue cheeses, and fruit-based desserts, especially those featuring stone fruit or citrus. It also pairs beautifully with spicy Asian dishes, where its sweetness offsets heat and aromatic spices. Serve lightly chilled at around 8–10°C, and decanting is generally not necessary unless the bottle is older and showing significant sediment.
