Domaine du Pégaü Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve 2018 is one of the estate’s most celebrated wines, and in this impressive 300cl format it offers both presence and cellaring appeal. Built on a dominant core of old-vine Grenache, with support from Mourvèdre, Syrah and other traditional Rhône varieties, it reflects the depth and character that have made Pégaü a benchmark name in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine is deep and dark, with an almost opaque ruby-garnet hue. The bouquet opens with blackberry, dark plum, black tea, black pepper, fresh rosemary and thyme, and with time in the glass it develops more savory layers of leather and sandalwood. The palate is powerful yet finely drawn, showing dense dark fruit, clove, white pepper and the same herbal accents found on the nose. There is plenty of structure here, but also balance and polish, giving the wine excellent aging potential. While it will continue to evolve beautifully over the next 5 years, it has the depth and architecture to remain at a very high level for 20 to 25 years.

Viininvalmistus
Domaine du Pégaü works with a traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape blend drawn from multiple grape varieties, though this cuvée is clearly led by Grenache. The grapes are vinified with a hands-off approach: whole clusters are pressed, fermentation takes place in cement vats without added yeast, and the wine is then matured for two years in used oak barrels. This method helps preserve purity of fruit while adding texture and complexity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine that calls for rich, flavorful dishes such as roasted lamb, game, beef stew, duck confit or Provençal-style braised meats with rosemary and thyme. It is best served around 16-18°C, and a good decant of 1-2 hours is recommended, especially in its youth, to allow the wine’s aromatic layers and full structure to open up.
