Kongsgaard Syrah 2018

Kongsgaard Syrah Hudson Vineyard 2018 is a standout Napa Valley Syrah from John and Alex Kongsgaard, and one of the most acclaimed examples of the grape in California. Sourced from Kongsgaard’s long-held parcel on the celebrated Hudson Vineyard in Carneros, it combines remarkable intensity, depth, and detail in a way that feels genuinely special from the first sip.

Makuprofiili
The wine pours an inky, near-black color that hints at its concentration. On the nose, it unfolds with striking layers of blackcurrant, blackberry, blood orange, black pepper, smoked meat, licorice, tar, and dark earth, creating an aromatic profile that is both powerful and refined. The palate is equally compelling, driven by dense dark fruit and savory smoky-meaty notes, lifted by dried Provençal herbs and spice. The finish is long, persistent, and deeply satisfying. While it is already magnificent now, this Syrah has the structure and balance to age gracefully for at least 20 years.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from Kongsgaard’s parcel at Hudson Vineyard in Carneros, one of the most respected sites in Napa Valley for Syrah. The vineyard’s cool-climate influence helps preserve freshness and aromatic complexity while allowing the fruit to develop deep ripeness and concentration. Specific harvesting and vinification details are not provided, but the wine clearly reflects careful site selection and meticulous production.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Syrah pairs beautifully with rich, savory dishes such as grilled lamb, braised short ribs, venison, duck, and roasted mushrooms. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended if drinking young to help the wine open up and reveal its full aromatic depth.
