Opus One 1982

Opus One 1982 stands as one of California’s most iconic cult wines, marking the commercial debut of the collaboration between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi. Crafted with a Bordeaux-inspired vision and sourced from prime Napa Valley parcels, it quickly established a reputation for luxury, precision, and rarity. As one of the earliest releases from this landmark partnership, it carries genuine historical significance in the rise of modern American fine wine.

In the glass, this wine would be expected to show a mature, deep garnet colour with softened edges, reflecting its age. The bouquet likely leans toward evolved Cabernet character: blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco, dried herbs, leather, and subtle notes of earth and spice, with the Cabernet Franc component adding lift and aromatic complexity. On the palate, Opus One 1982 is likely refined and layered, with resolved tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, savoury finish. Viininvalmistus
The grapes came from four unique parcels in Napa Valley’s Oakville district, a terroir especially well suited to Bordeaux varieties thanks to its warm days, cool evenings, and well-drained soils. The fruit was hand-harvested and carefully sorted in both vineyard and cellar after destemming to ensure only the best berries were used. Fermentation included 18 days of skin contact, followed by 18 months of maturation in new French oak barrels, and the wine was clarified with fresh egg whites before bottling.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This mature, structured red pairs beautifully with classic dishes such as roast beef, lamb, game, duck breast, or mushroom-based preparations. It also works well with aged hard cheeses and truffle-rich dishes that complement its savoury development. Serve at 16–18°C and decant gently for about 30–60 minutes if the bottle appears stable; with a wine of this age, a careful decant is recommended mainly to separate any sediment.
