Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 Dobbeltmagnum

Ridge Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon is one of California’s great benchmark wines, and the 2017 vintage in double magnum format makes it even more special. First produced under the Ridge label in 1962, it draws on the historic Monte Bello Vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where vines have been cultivated since 1886. This is a Bordeaux-inspired blend known for its remarkable elegance, precision, and age-worthy structure rather than sheer power.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a deep dark ruby color that hints at its concentration and depth. The nose is layered and expressive, with aromas of ripe plum, blackberry, espresso, black truffle, anise, crushed stone, and subtle oak spice from its new barrels. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and intense, yet beautifully balanced, with dark fruit at the core and savory, earthy nuances unfolding alongside it. Despite its richness, it remains polished and composed, with an alcohol level of 13.7% that lends a sense of restraint and finesse. This is still a very young Monte Bello with significant aging potential; given time, it should develop even greater complexity and harmony over many years.

Viininvalmistus
Monte Bello Vineyard lies in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where elevation, cool coastal influence, and rocky soils contribute to the wine’s freshness, structure, and distinctive mineral edge. The grapes are harvested with care to preserve balance and ripeness, and the wine is then aged for 17 months in 100% new, air-dried oak barrels. This vinification approach adds depth, seasoning, and texture while allowing the vineyard’s character to remain at the forefront.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for premium cuts of beef, lamb, game, roast duck, and dishes with earthy elements such as mushrooms, truffles, or lentils. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is strongly recommended, especially if opened young, to allow the wine to gradually раскры its full aromatic and structural complexity.
