Taylor's Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha 2017

Taylor’s Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha 2017 comes from one of the Douro Valley’s most revered single vineyards, a historic source of some of Taylor’s finest Ports. Made from old vines on the legendary Quinta de Vargellas, this vintage combines the house’s trademark power and structure with remarkable elegance, depth, and aging potential.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this Port shows a deep, concentrated color that hints at its youthful intensity. The nose is layered and expressive, with dark fruit aromas of blackberries and plums, lifted by the kind of complexity that old vines and a great vintage can deliver. On the palate, it is rich and serious, with plenty of dark fruit, firm tannins, and a defined backbone that gives the wine real presence. Compared with the more immediate style of regular Taylor’s Vintage Port, this bottling leans deeper and more restrained, with a darker, more structured profile built for long cellaring. It should develop beautifully over decades.

Viininvalmistus
The fruit comes from Quinta de Vargellas, one of Taylor’s most iconic vineyards in the Douro, known for producing Ports of great structure, elegance, and complexity. The vineyard’s old vines contribute a field blend character and naturally low yields, while the steep Douro terroir adds concentration and freshness. In 2017, the wine was aged for around 20 months in French oak before bottling, helping preserve its intensity while adding subtle refinement.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Serve this Port slightly cool, ideally around 16-18°C, to allow its structure and fruit to show at their best. It pairs beautifully with dark chocolate, blue cheese, walnut tart, or rich berry desserts, and also works well as a contemplative after-dinner wine. Decanting is strongly recommended, especially in its youth, to separate sediment and allow the wine to open gradually.
