Taylor's Vintage Port 2000

Taylor’s Vintage Port 2000 is a benchmark expression of classic Douro Vintage Port, drawn from one of the most respected houses in Portugal. Deep, powerful and built for the long haul, it showcases the concentration, structure and finesse that have made Taylor’s a reference point for collectors worldwide. Produced from prime estate fruit, including the famed Quinta de Vargellas, this vintage is a serious cellar wine with impressive historical pedigree.

In the glass, it is typically almost opaque, with a dense purple-black core that hints at its power and youth. The nose is intensely layered, showing graphite, blackberry liqueur, cassis, smoke and dark floral notes, with an almost mineral edge that adds precision and lift. The palate is richly concentrated yet balanced, with ripe black fruit, sweet spice and firm, finely grained tannins giving the wine its impressive backbone. Despite its opulence, there is structure and freshness beneath the fruit, suggesting outstanding aging potential; Robert Parker famously noted an anticipated maturity window extending from 2010 to 2040, and the wine is still capable of evolving beautifully over time.

Taylor’s Vintage Port 2000 comes from old vineyards in the Douro Valley, where steep schist soils, intense summer heat and dramatic diurnal shifts help produce grapes of remarkable concentration and complexity. The estate fruit is harvested by hand, with parcels selected for vintage declaration from top sites such as Quinta de Vargellas and Quinta da Terra Feita. Fermentation is traditionally short and vigorous to preserve freshness and extract, followed by fortification with grape spirit and aging in wood before bottling as a declared Vintage Port.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Best served slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C, and ideally decanted for several hours to allow the wine to open fully and separate any natural sediment. Pair it with blue cheese, dark chocolate desserts, walnut tart or simply enjoy it on its own after dinner. It is also a superb companion to rich, nutty cheeses or a classic chocolate fondant.
