In the glass, it shows a deep plum-garnet colour with remarkable density and little sign of ageing at the rim. The bouquet is profoundly expressive, unfolding with black fruits, truffle, scorched earth, licorice, graphite and damp soil, especially after extended aeration. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and intensely layered, with formidable tannins, broad structure and a long, resonant finish. Despite its age, it remains impressively youthful and still has the backbone for further cellaring, promising continued development over many years to come.

La Mission Haut-Brion comes from gravelly Bordeaux terroir in the Graves, where well-drained soils and a temperate maritime climate help produce wines of both power and finesse. The estate’s grapes are hand-harvested in the cool early morning hours to preserve freshness and avoid oxidation, followed by strict selection in both vineyard and cellar before vinification. The wine is crafted with meticulous attention to extraction and balance, resulting in a concentrated, age-worthy style that reflects the estate’s reputation for precision and depth.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine is an excellent match for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, game, duck breast, or dishes with truffle, wild mushroom, or earthy sauce components. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and decanting is strongly recommended—ideally well in advance—to allow the aromatics and complexity to fully open.

Its modern chapter began in 1919 under the Woltner family and continued after the 1983 acquisition by Clarence Dillon, owner of neighbouring Château Haut-Brion, who invested heavily in replanting and rebuilding the cellars. Recognised in the Liv-Ex reclassification as a Premier Cru estate, La Mission Haut-Brion is widely regarded as one of the most consistent and accomplished names in fine Bordeaux, with a long record of critical acclaim and exceptional vintages.
