Planeta Nero d'Avola Santa Cecilia 2022 is a benchmark expression of Sicily’s flagship red grape, crafted from fruit grown in the historic DOC Noto zone in the island’s southeast. Made by one of Sicily’s most respected producers, it combines regional authenticity, old-vine character, and the distinctive influence of the area’s white soils, which have long been prized for Nero d’Avola.

In the glass, Santa Cecilia typically shows a deep ruby core with purple highlights, hinting at its youthful intensity. The nose is generous and expressive, with ripe dark cherry, plum, blackberry, and Mediterranean herbs lifted by subtle spice and mineral notes from the Noto terroir. On the palate, it is full-flavored and polished, balancing the grape’s natural richness with freshness and structure. Expect dark berry fruit, soft tannins, and a savory, lightly earthy finish that reflects its Sicilian origins. While approachable in its youth, this wine also has the concentration and balance to develop well over the next several years.

Santa Cecilia comes from vineyards around Noto in southern Sicily, an area regarded as the heartland of Nero d’Avola. The region’s bright, dry climate, white limestone-rich soils, and old vines create ideal conditions for ripening the grape while preserving its natural vitality. The fruit is carefully harvested to capture optimal ripeness and freshness, then vinified to emphasize purity of fruit, structure, and the distinctive character of the site.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, roasted pork, Sicilian-style pasta dishes, eggplant parmigiana, and mature hard cheeses. Serve it slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if enjoying it soon after opening to help the aromas fully open.
