Val di Suga Brunello di Montalcino Poggio al Granchio 2018 is a site-driven Brunello that highlights one of Montalcino’s most distinctive vineyard parcels. Sourced from a narrow valley on the southeastern ridge of the appellation, this wine combines altitude, morning sun, and the cooling influence of Monte Amiata to give Sangiovese Grosso a refined, deeply expressive character. Brunello from this area is especially prized for the marl-rich soils that bring structure, elegance, and age-worthy balance.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this Brunello typically shows a deep ruby hue with garnet reflections, especially in youth. The nose is layered and expressive, with aromas of ripe red cherry, dried rose, wild herbs, and subtle spice, often joined by hints of leather, tobacco, and earthy mineral tones as it opens. On the palate, it is structured yet polished, with firm tannins, lively acidity, and a core of sour cherry, plum, and savory Mediterranean notes. The influence of the site lends freshness and precision, while the marl soils help shape a long, focused finish. This is a wine built for aging and can develop beautifully over many years, gaining complexity, softness, and secondary aromas of truffle, dried fruit, and forest floor.

Viininvalmistus
Poggio al Granchio lies in one of the highest vineyard areas of Montalcino, on a narrow valley exposed to morning sunlight and strongly influenced by Monte Amiata, which helps moderate temperatures and preserve freshness in the grapes. The soils are rich in marl, a prized component for Brunello that contributes both structure and finesse. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified with care to respect the character of the site, typically with traditional fermentation and maturation practices that allow Sangiovese Grosso to express its full depth and longevity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Brunello pairs beautifully with rich Tuscan dishes such as pappardelle with wild boar ragù, braised beef, roasted lamb, mushroom risotto, and aged Pecorino. It also works well with game, duck, and slow-cooked dishes with herbs and tomato. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1 to 2 hours if drinking young to help the wine open and soften its tannins.
