Abreu Cappella Proprietary Red 2011 is a striking Napa Valley blend from one of the region’s most celebrated vineyard sites. Sourced from the historic Cappella vineyard in St. Helena, this wine reflects David Abreu’s obsessive vineyard craftsmanship and his ability to unlock exceptional depth, precision, and balance from some of California’s finest terroir. The 2011 vintage shows a softer, more immediately approachable side of the estate, while still carrying the signature structure and pedigree that have made Abreu wines so sought after.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, this wine shows a deep blue-black color, hinting at its concentrated fruit profile. The nose is lifted and beautifully layered, with notes of mint, lavender, savory herbs, and a faint ferrous edge that adds complexity to the dark, inky fruit.
On the palate, it is silky and surprisingly open for the vintage, yet still firmly built, with well-integrated tannins and a polished, balanced structure. Dense blackberry and cassis tones are supported by savory nuance and a persistent mineral streak. While it is already highly expressive, the wine has the concentration and structure to age gracefully over time, gaining further nuance and harmony in bottle.
Viininvalmistus
Cappella is one of the oldest vineyard sites in St. Helena, first planted in 1869 on just 2.5 hectares of prime Napa Valley land. After being cleared and left fallow for nearly two decades, the site was carefully replanted under David Abreu’s guidance, with a total reworking of the vineyard to ensure uniformity and long-term health. The grapes were handled with the meticulous standards for which Abreu is known, with a focus on preserving purity, balance, and site expression in the final blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a natural match for prime rib, grilled lamb, braised short ribs, or rich mushroom dishes, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting is recommended if opening young, as it will help the wine reveal its aromatics and soften its structure.
