Abreu Cappella Proprietary Red 2015

Abreu Cappella Proprietary Red 2015 is a remarkably limited, terroir-driven red from one of St. Helena’s oldest vineyard sites. First planted in 1869 and meticulously replanted under David Abreu’s eye, Cappella is prized for its finesse, depth, and the precision that has made Abreu Vineyards one of California’s most respected names.

In the glass, the wine shows a deep blue, almost inky color that hints at its concentration. The nose is finely tuned and aromatic, with lifted notes of mint and lavender layered over dark fruit. On the palate, Cappella leans into elegance rather than sheer weight, offering vivid fruit, excellent extract, and a firm structural core. The blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot gives the wine freshness, complexity, and balance. While approachable in its youth, it has the structure to age gracefully over time, developing greater nuance with cellar time.

Cappella comes from a small 2.5-hectare vineyard in St. Helena, one of the oldest sites in the area, with origins dating back to 1869. After years of neglect and a complete replanting, the vineyard was restored with a focus on uniform vine age and healthy rootstock, allowing for consistent ripening and exceptional fruit quality. The grapes are harvested with great care and vinified to preserve purity, finesse, and the distinctive character of the site.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Serve this wine at around 16–18°C and decant it if enjoyed young, especially to open up its aromatics and soften the tannins. It pairs beautifully with filet of beef, roast lamb, game dishes, or richly flavored mushroom-based plates, as well as aged hard cheeses.
