Abreu Cappella Proprietary Red 2015 is a powerful, finely detailed Napa Valley blend from Abreu Vineyards, built from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Sourced from the highly regarded Thorevilos vineyard, it reflects the kind of depth, structure, and precision that has made David Abreu’s sites some of the most coveted in California. Though Thorevilos sits outside any official AVA, its distinctive character and consistently exceptional quality have made it a benchmark wine with a cult following.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, this wine shows a deep, inky color that immediately signals concentration and intensity. The nose is layered and expressive, with dark berries, cassis, plum, and subtle floral and mineral nuances, wrapped in notes of spice, cedar, and graphite.
On the palate, it is lush yet impeccably structured, with remarkable depth, freshness, and a velvety tannin profile. The wine unfolds in waves, revealing new nuances with each sip and finishing long, refined, and energetic. This is a wine with excellent aging potential, likely to evolve beautifully over many years as its complexity continues to build.
Viininvalmistus
Thorevilos is a distinctive mountain site located between St. Helena and Howell Mountain at around 250 meters above sea level. Its terroir is unusual and highly complex, combining white, easily weathered tuff minerals with orange-brown gravel, creating the kind of soil diversity that helps shape the vineyard’s singular identity. The vineyard is farmed with a focus on preserving this character, and the fruit is harvested carefully to capture optimal ripeness and balance before being vinified to emphasize concentration, structure, and site expression.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine that calls for equally rich and flavorful dishes, such as prime rib, grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, venison, or lamb with herbs. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses and truffle-based dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine’s layers and aromatic detail to open fully.
