Abreu Las Posadas Proprietary Red 2011

Abreu Las Posadas Proprietary Red 2011 is a remarkable Howell Mountain red built around Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Sourced from a high-altitude site above the fog line and shaped by David Abreu’s exacting vineyard standards, it has long been regarded as one of the mountain’s most compelling single-vineyard wines.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows an inky, deep purple hue that hints at its intensity and concentration. The nose is layered and striking, with mulberry, blackberry, blackcurrant, graphite, burned earth, smoldering charcoal, liquorice, and a subtle note of truffle. On the palate, this is a lavish, full-bodied wine with exceptional richness, depth, and structure. The fruit is powerful yet refined, supported by mineral tension and savory complexity, giving the wine a dramatic, almost immersive feel. It has outstanding aging potential and should continue to evolve beautifully for 40 to 50 years.

Viininvalmistus
Las Posadas comes from Howell Mountain in California, where the vineyard sits at over 600 meters above sea level, above the fog line and protected from wind by surrounding pine and fir forests. The soils are highly complex and well suited to viticulture, and only a portion of the 13-hectare property has been planted to vines. The fruit is farmed with extraordinary precision under David Abreu’s meticulous approach, allowing the single-vineyard character of the site to shine in the finished wine.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine that calls for equally robust dishes such as grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, venison, or slow-roasted lamb. It also pairs well with truffle-based dishes and hard aged cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for several hours if enjoying young, as the wine benefits from air and time to open fully.
