Abreu Las Posadas Proprietary Red 2014 is one of Howell Mountain’s most compelling estate wines, built from a high-altitude vineyard that sits above the fog line and delivers remarkable intensity and precision. Makuprofiili
In the glass, this wine shows an inky, dark purple color that immediately signals concentration and depth. The nose is captivating and layered, opening with mulberry, blackberry, and blackcurrant, then moving into graphite, scorched earth, charcoal smoke, licorice, and subtle truffle notes.
On the palate, it is lavish and richly textured, with impressive volume, ripe dark fruit, and a firm mineral spine that keeps everything focused. The wine combines Howell Mountain’s natural structure with a surprisingly approachable feel in this vintage, making it accessible now while still having the depth and balance to evolve gracefully over the coming years.
Viininvalmistus
Las Posadas comes from a 13-hectare Howell Mountain site in California, planted at more than 600 meters above sea level, above the fog line and sheltered by surrounding pine and fir forests. The soils are complex and well suited to viticulture, and only about five hectares were initially planted to vine after David Abreu acquired the land in 2000. The wine is made as a single-vineyard expression with meticulous vineyard work and careful cellar handling designed to preserve the site’s purity, structure, and intensity.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a natural match for richly flavored dishes such as grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, roast lamb, venison, or dishes with mushrooms and truffle. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours to allow the wine’s aromatics and structure to fully open.
