Abreu Madrona Ranch Proprietary Red 2014 is a striking Napa Valley red built from one of David Abreu’s most celebrated vineyard sites. First developed in the 1980s, Madrona Ranch is prized for its dramatic elevation changes, mixed exposures, and exceptionally varied soils, which give the wine its layered complexity and distinctive sense of place.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this is typically a deeply colored, almost opaque red, reflecting its concentration and richness. The bouquet is highly expressive, with dark blackberry, blackcurrant, and ripe plum joined by notes of graphite, cedar, violets, subtle licorice, and earthy spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, with generous fruit depth balanced by firm, polished tannins and vivid freshness. The Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend brings power and longevity, while Cabernet Franc adds aromatic lift and nuance, with Merlot and Petit Verdot rounding out the texture and backbone. This is a wine built for the long haul and should continue to evolve gracefully for many years, gaining further complexity with cellaring.

Madrona Ranch is a highly complex vineyard site in California with steep elevation shifts, changing exposures, and a patchwork of volcanic Aiken soils, white tuff, clay, and rocky ground. The diversity of the site makes farming demanding, but it also allows Abreu to harvest in small lots over an extended period, picking each section at optimal ripeness. The result is a carefully assembled proprietary red that reflects the vineyard’s varied terroir and meticulous vinification approach.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for richly flavored dishes such as grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, lamb rack, venison, or truffle-based mushroom dishes. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours to allow the wine to open and soften.
