Domaine Armand Rousseau’s Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques 2008 is a superb expression of one of Burgundy’s most celebrated premier cru vineyards. Often spoken of in the same breath as Grand Cru sites, Clos St. Jacques combines finesse, depth, and unmistakable Gevrey-Chambertin character, all shaped by one of the region’s most revered producers.

Makuprofiili
The 2008 vintage shows a bright, precise profile with excellent freshness and aromatic clarity. In the glass, it offers a vivid ruby appearance, while the nose unfolds with layered notes of red cherry, raspberry, floral accents, spice, and a subtle mineral edge. On the palate, the wine is refined and beautifully balanced, with firm yet integrated acidity giving it lift and energy. The tannins are fine and silky, supporting a wine of real depth and length, with earthy, forest-floor nuances emerging on the finish. While already enjoyable for its charm and definition, it also has strong aging potential and will continue to develop complexity over the next 5–10 years.

Clos St. Jacques is one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most distinguished premier cru vineyards, prized for its ability to produce wines of exceptional structure, perfume, and longevity. The cooler 2008 growing season favored fresh acidity and a precise fruit expression, resulting in a wine with elegance and tension. Fermentation and élevage at Domaine Armand Rousseau are carried out with the meticulous approach for which the estate is famous, allowing the character of the vineyard to remain at the forefront.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine that pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as roast duck, pigeon, game birds, veal, or mushroom-based preparations. It also works well with truffle dishes and mature cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting gently for 30–60 minutes if opening young, though an older bottle may be best enjoyed with minimal air.
