Domaine Armand Rousseau’s Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques 2018 is one of those wines that seems to outgrow its classification. Though officially a Premier Cru, Clos St. Jacques is widely regarded as Grand Cru-caliber, thanks to its exceptional site and the estate’s masterful touch. The 2018 vintage brings generous ripeness and depth, while retaining the refinement and precision that have made Rousseau one of Burgundy’s most revered names.

In the glass, it shows the luminous, elegant depth expected from top-tier Burgundy, with a vibrant ruby core and graceful clarity. The nose opens with ripe cherry, violet, and red berry aromas, layered with spice, earth, and a subtle mineral edge that speaks clearly of its Gevrey-Chambertin origins. On the palate, the wine is both powerful and supremely polished, combining supple texture with finely etched tannins and bright, balancing acidity. There is impressive concentration, but never heaviness; instead, the wine unfolds with poise and length, finishing with a persistent, mouthwatering finesse. While already remarkably seductive, it has the structure and balance to evolve beautifully over many years in bottle.

Clos St. Jacques is one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most celebrated Premier Cru vineyards, known for its outstanding exposure and complex soils that lend the wine both depth and aromatic lift. The 2018 growing season was warm and generous, producing fully ripe fruit, yet the estate’s careful harvesting and precise vinification preserved the vineyard’s natural elegance and freshness.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a superb match for roast duck, pigeon, game birds, lamb, or dishes featuring mushrooms and truffle, as well as refined French cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C to allow the aromatics and texture to shine. Decanting is recommended, especially in its youth, to help the wine open and express its full complexity.
