Babylonstoren Candide 2022

Babylonstoren Candide 2022 is a fresh, charming South African white blend built around Chardonnay and lifted by Sémillon, Chenin Blanc, Roussanne, and Viognier from the estate’s own vineyards. Bright, crisp, and instantly appealing, it’s the kind of wine that disappears quickly from the glass while still offering a refined sense of place and a touch of history from one of the Cape’s most iconic farms.

Makuprofiili
Pale straw with a greenish hue, the wine opens with inviting aromas of citrus, pineapple, dried fruit, and a faint floral note reminiscent of a damp flower bed after rain. On the palate it is lively and mouth-watering, with flavors of lime, melon, pineapple, and a hint of mint, supported by a soft mineral line that keeps everything focused and fresh. The finish is clean, gently leesy, and easy to enjoy, making this an uncomplicated but thoroughly satisfying white. While it can be enjoyed now for its youthful energy, it is best drinking within the first 2–3 years to capture its brightest fruit and crisp edge.

Viininvalmistus
Candide 2022 is made from estate-grown fruit sourced from Babylonstoren’s vineyards near Simonsberg, where the elevated sites and varied soils help preserve freshness and aromatic complexity. The blend is composed of 36% Chardonnay, 25% Sémillon, 16% Chenin Blanc, 13% Roussanne, and 10% Viognier, reflecting a thoughtful approach to balancing texture, fruit, and lift. After pressing and fermentation, the wine is matured partly in stainless steel and partly for four months in oak barrels to add subtle depth without overwhelming its fresh style.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a versatile food wine that works beautifully with lighter dishes such as grilled fish, chicken, salads, roasted vegetables, and fresh goat cheese. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C for the best expression of its fruit and freshness. Decanting is not necessary; in fact, it is best enjoyed straight from the bottle while young and vibrant.
