Deep and inviting in the glass, this Pinot Noir opens with layered aromas of blackcurrant, red cherries, and plums, lifted by floral notes of chamomile, lavender, and violet. The nose is expressive and complex, hinting at both ripeness and freshness. On the palate, the wine unfolds in layers, echoing the dark fruit and floral notes from the aroma while adding ripe red currants and a touch of cocoa. It has a dark, concentrated personality balanced by Pinot Noir’s natural finesse, with a long, memorable finish that lingers beautifully. De Villiers Vineyard in California has a reputation for delivering Pinot Noir with uncommon depth and intensity, thanks to its established vines and carefully managed site. For this vintage, winemaker Mike Waller chose to ferment about half the clusters whole-cluster, leaving the stems intact to add structure and complexity, before aging the wine for 18 months in French oak barrels, with a little over one-third new oak. The result is a nuanced, layered Pinot Noir shaped by both vineyard character and meticulous cellar work.

This Pinot Noir is an excellent match for duck breast, roast turkey, mushroom risotto, game birds, or grilled salmon. It also pairs well with earthy dishes such as truffle pasta or lentils with herbs. Serve at 14–16°C. Decanting is optional, but a short decant of 20–30 minutes can help the wine open up, especially in its youth.
