Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 50th Anniversary 2022 Magnum is a celebratory release from one of Napa Valley’s most recognisable names, marking five decades of Caymus Cabernet since 1972. This magnum captures the house style at its most expressive: rich, plush, and fruit-driven, with depth, concentration, and a polished oak touch that has helped make Caymus a benchmark for modern Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows a deep purple hue, almost opaque at the core. The nose is densely layered with crème de cassis, violet, dark chocolate, sweet spice, lilac, anise, and cardamom, unfolding with remarkable intensity. The palate is full-bodied and generous, delivering waves of ripe dark fruit, cocoa, mocha, sweet tobacco, leather, vanilla, and a hint of sweet liquorice. The tannins are supple rather than dry or austere, supporting the wine’s round, velvety texture. The finish is warm, spicy, and persistent, and while it is delicious now, the magnum format also gives it excellent cellaring potential for 20–25 years or more.

Viininvalmistus
This anniversary bottling draws on carefully selected Napa Valley fruit from old vines and low-yielding vineyards, with minimal irrigation and grapes left on the vine longer than usual to achieve the signature ripe, dark style Caymus is known for. The result is a wine built on concentration and maturity, rather than overt extraction. French oak is used judiciously to frame the fruit without overpowering it, allowing the lush Cabernet character to remain front and centre. The long hang time and selective fruit sourcing are key to the winery’s approach, though they also require careful timing to avoid early season weather interruptions that can affect yields.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a superb match for prime rib, ribeye steak, braised short ribs, grilled lamb, venison, or rich mushroom dishes. It also pairs well with aged cheddar or hard, nutty cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C and, if possible, decant for 1–2 hours to let the aromatics open and the texture settle.
