Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection 2017 is the flagship wine from Caymus Vineyards and one of Napa Valley’s most sought-after releases. Produced only in exceptional vintages from the best parcels, it has earned legendary status thanks to its richness, consistency, and the precision of winemaker Chuck Wagner. It is also famously the only wine to be named Wine Spectator’s “Number One Wine in the World” twice, making it a true benchmark for California Cabernet.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a deep, dark ruby color with impressive concentration. The nose is generous and layered, opening with dark cherry, blueberry pie, and boysenberry, followed by more savory accents of tar, milk chocolate, and liquorice. On the palate, the wine is powerful and polished, with dense flavors of dark cherry, blue and red berries, boysenberry, shaved milk chocolate, and a subtle tarry edge that adds complexity. Despite its already impressive balance, this is still a youthful wine that benefits from a little time in the glass. The finish is remarkably long and persistent, and while it is dazzling now, it has the depth and structure to continue developing beautifully over time.

This wine is made only in years when the fruit from Caymus’ finest vineyard plots reaches outstanding ripeness and quality. Sourced from prime Napa Valley sites in California, the Special Selection reflects the region’s warm days, cool influences, and ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are carefully selected by hand, and the vinification is guided by Chuck Wagner’s signature approach, focused on ripeness, concentration, and seamless texture.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Best enjoyed with rich dishes such as grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, lamb chops, or truffle-infused mushroom dishes. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses and hearty roasts. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to help the aromas fully open.
